BLAKE is seeking an Environmental Educators to help us deliver our ‘discovery’ programmes in the Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland region; including NZ-VR, BLAKE Explorers and public events and activations.

BLAKE (formerly the Sir Peter Blake Trust) is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to continuing Sir Peter Blake’s environmental leadership legacy. Our core purpose is to re-start people caring for the environment…through adventure, through participation, through education and through enjoyment.

We do this by providing life-changing experiences and programmes that follow in the footsteps of Sir Peter Blake himself.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is a full-time fixed-term position working as part of a team to deliver BLAKE’s ‘discovery’ programmes, including NZ-VR, Explorers as well as public events and activations.

The role will deliver NZ-VR lessons in schools, as well as undertake necessary administration of the programme. It will also support and deliver BLAKE Explorers, our newest programme that connects young New Zealanders to the marine environment through experiential learning activities.

Ideally we are seeking someone who has strong knowledge and experience in te ao Māori, including high levels of te reo Māori.

On occasions, the role will also support and deliver public events and activations undertaken by BLAKE.

KEY PROGRAMME RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Present inspiring and impactful classroom sessions with VR headsets using pre-developed lesson structures on a range of topics.
  • Support and deliver BLAKE Explorers in a positive and engaging way, connecting with the students and teachers.
  • Deliver sessions to additional community groups or corporate partners as required.
  • Present inspiring and impactful classroom sessions with VR headsets using pre-developed lesson structures on a range of topics.
  • Further develop teacher and student resources to complement the sessions.
  • Liaise with schools to promote programmes and confirm bookings, ensuring a full schedule of schools is maintained.
  • Manage equipment including VR headsets and other collateral.
  • Integrate Māori principles and content within the programmes.
  • Deliver sessions to additional community groups or corporate partners as required.
  • Plan and manage BLAKE Explorers to ensure a high-quality multi-day experience is received by the participants.
  • Deliver BLAKE Explorers in a positive and engaging way, connecting with the students and teachers.

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL NEED THE FOLLOWING SKILLS:

  • Ability to captivate and inspire children and teachers through delivery of the NZ-VR programme.
  • Preferable to have experience working with Māori and Pacific Island rangatahi.
  • A commitment to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and an enthusiasm for engaging with te ao Māori. Strong knowledge in this area would be advantageous.
  • Ability to speak te reo Māori would also be advantageous.
  • Preferable to have knowledge across a range of environmental / sustainability issues, with a preference for marine ecosystems and the challenges they face.
  • Ability to work autonomously and deliver programmes while being away from head office.
  • Good team player who can comfortably work alongside others and team-teach.
  • Full or restricted driver license required.
