Jacob Anderson

Head of Programmes - Depth

Jacob is head of depth programmes for BLAKE including BLAKE Inspire, BLAKE Inspire for Teachers, BLAKE Expeditions, and the BLAKE Ambassador programme. He led the BLAKE Expedition to Doubtful Sound in 2022 and coordinated the science communication and outreach for the BLAKE Expeditions to the Sub-Antarctic in 2016 and to Rangitāhua / Kermadec Islands in 2018. He obtained his Bachelor of Science in Earth Science at Massey University and his Master of Science in Geology at the University of Otago, where he held an AINSE Postgraduate Research Award. Jacob is a Sir Robin Irvine Scholar and is undertaking his PhD at the University of Otago. His research focuses on past Antarctic climate and ice sheet behaviour. He has participated in six scientific expeditions to Antarctica, and has been on two expeditions to the Sub-Antarctic Auckland Islands as part of the Department of Conservation yellow-eyed penguin monitoring programme and on the 2016 BLAKE Expedition.
