BLAKE Awards – nominations OPEN for 2020!

The annual BLAKE Awards recognise and celebrate people whose leadership has delivered high impact results and contributed to a more sustainable future for Aotearoa socially, culturally, environmentally or economically.

We are looking for extraordinary New Zealanders who have created positive impact from all areas of New Zealand society.

This year there are three leadership award categories:

  • BLAKE Award (4)
  • BLAKE Award – Environment (1)
  • BLAKE Award – Youth (1)

We are also seeking nominations for the prestigious BLAKE Medal which is awarded to one person annually.

BLAKE Award: This award recognises and celebrates people whose leadership has delivered high impact results and contributed to a more sustainable future for New Zealand. This includes leadership creating impact across any social, cultural, environmental or economic areas of New Zealand society. Up to four BLAKE Awards in this category are presented annually.

BLAKE Award – Environment: Sponsored by NIWA, this award recognises and celebrates people whose leadership has delivered high impact results with a significant emphasis on environmental sustainability. This can include fields such as science, education, communication, or general environmental leadership.

BLAKE Award – Youth: Sponsored by Westpac, this award recognises and celebrates young people aged 13-20 whose leadership creates an impact on a sustainable future for New Zealand. This includes leadership creating impact across any social, cultural, environmental or economic areas of New Zealand society. This award may relate specifically to a project.

CRITERIA (FOR ABOVE CATEGORIES)
  • Demonstrate outstanding leadership
  • Create an impact and help contribute to a sustainable future for New Zealand socially, culturally, environmentally or economically.
  • Ability to clearly communicate a vision and inspire others
  • Display some or all of the characteristics that Sir Peter Blake himself demonstrated, including:
    • belief in achieving extraordinary things
    • the initiative to pursue an idea
    • a desire for constant improvement
    • trusting and empowering teammates
    • integrity
    • having fun
  • Demonstrate a commitment to New Zealand (and be a New Zealand citizen)

BLAKE MEDAL: The BLAKE Medal recognises and celebrates one person each year whose leadership has helped create a more sustainable future for New Zealand and/or globally, usually over an extended period of time. This includes leadership creating impact across any social, cultural, environmental or economic area of society. One BLAKE Medal is awarded annually.

CRITERIA FOR BLAKE MEDAL
  • Demonstrate outstanding leadership at the highest levels of their field
  • Create an impact and help lead a sustainable future for NZ and/or globally
  • Ability to clearly communicate a vision and inspire others
  • Display some or all of the characteristics that Sir Peter Blake himself demonstrated, including:
    • belief in achieving extraordinary things
    • the initiative to pursue an idea
    • a desire for constant improvement
    • trusting and empowering teammates
    • integrity
    • having fun
  • Is a New Zealander
