BLAKE Inspire 2022

This year we look forward to welcoming up to another 100 passionate, young environmental leaders to join us for our 2022 BLAKE Inspire programmes.

BLAKE Inspire is a week-long residential leadership development programme in partnership with the Ministry for the Environment; and in 2022 we are excited to announce that for the first time we are running three programmes (up to 35 students per programme):

  • 19 – 23 April in Waikato
  • 21 – 25 August in Auckland (during Term 3)
  • 10 – 14 October in Waikato or Auckland (TBC)

Throughout the week students will work together with scientists, environmental experts, a diverse range of leaders and other like-minded students to help them develop strong leadership skills while learning about topical environmental issues and how they can take action to tackle them.

Participation, adventure and learning are all key requirements for delegates. They will take part in environmental and marine science activities and visit businesses and local organisations to learn about what they are doing to reduce their impact on the environment. Most importantly, students have tonnes of fun and leave BLAKE Inspire with new friends, skills and clear action plans to start making positive change within their own schools and communities.

BLAKE Inspire delegates become eligible to join future BLAKE Expeditions as student voyagers.

BLAKE Inspire is an annual opportunity open to young New Zealanders thanks to a number of BLAKE supporters including programme sponsor, The Ministry for the Environment.

How to apply:

PART ONE

You will need:

  • A 1-2 page CV outlining any academic, community or employment involvement
  • A 1-2 page reference letter from a community leader, teacher or relevant person outlining your suitability for the programme – please note that we require a reference letter, not a list of referees
  • Bullet point outline of any outdoor/environmental hobbies, programmes or adventures you lead or have participated in
  • A high resolution head and shoulders photo to use for publicity
  • An excitement for wanting to support our environment through participating in BLAKE Inspire!

PART TWO

Part Two of the application is a short video interview that will take no more than 10 minutes.

Upon submitting your written application you will receive a link to this interview from Sonru within 24 hours (check your spam/junk mail). For this interview you will need to answer three short questions. We are looking for young people with passion! Don’t worry if you are not a confident speaker or you make mistakes, this won’t affect your application.

Please note that the closing date for both PART ONE and PART TWO is 11.59pm Friday 11 February 2022, so give yourself enough time to complete the written application in PART ONE before being sent the interview link to complete for PART TWO.

You can save and exit your submission to continue at a later time and you will receive an automatic email confirmation when submitting your final application.

As per Ministry of Health guidelines, all BLAKE Inspire delegates are required to be double-vaccinated. All staff and accredited providers are double vaccinated.

For more information email the Programme Manager, Courtney Davies, at [email protected] or phone the BLAKE office on 09 307 8875.
