Auckland, New Zealand

Students (Year 11 - 13)

BLAKE Inspire applications for 2021 are now open!

Together with the Ministry for the Environment, we are looking for up to 70 young, passionate environmental leaders to apply for our 2021 BLAKE Inspire programmes.

BLAKE Inspire is a week-long residential leadership development programme in partnership with the Ministry for the Environment; and this year we are excited to announce we are running two programmes (COVID-19 Alert Level dependent):

  • 19 – 23 April in Waikato
  • 11 – 15 October in Auckland

Each programme will have 35 places available and is fully funded. You will be able to state your availability within your application form but please note that year 13 students will have priority for the April programme.

Throughout the week students will work together with scientists, environmental experts, a diverse range of leaders and other like-minded students to help them develop strong leadership skills while learning about topical environmental issues and how they can take action to tackle them.

Participation, adventure and learning are all key requirements for delegates. They will take part in environmental and marine science activities and visit businesses and local organisations to learn about what they are doing to reduce their impact on the environment.

Most importantly, students have tonnes of fun and leave BLAKE Inspire with new friends, skills and clear action plans to start making positive change within their own schools and communities.

BLAKE Inspire delegates become eligible to join future BLAKE Expeditions as student voyagers.

BLAKE Inspire is an annual opportunity open to young New Zealanders thanks to a number of BLAKE supporters including programme sponsor, The Ministry for the Environment.

This is a two part application process. PART ONE is a short, online written form accessible by clicking on the button above.

Before completing this form you will need:

  • Your CV outlining relevant activities or school/community involvement you have had (1-2 pages maximum).
  • A reference letter from a teacher, school principal or relevant community leader (1-2 pages maximum). This person should be able to comment on your character, skills and suitability as a BLAKE Inspire delegate.
  • A high-resolution head and shoulders profile photo of yourself (at least 1MB but no more than 3MB). If selected for BLAKE Inspire, this will be used in our programme manual and in any publications.

PART TWO of the application is a short video interview that will take no more than 10 minutes to complete.

Upon submitting your written application you will receive a link to this interview within 24 hours. For this interview you will need to answer three short questions. We are looking for young people with passion! Don’t worry if you are not a confident speaker or you make mistakes, this won’t affect your application.

Please note that the closing date for both PART ONE and PART TWO has been extended to Monday 1st March 2021, at 11.59pm, so give yourself enough time to complete the written application in PART ONE before being sent the interview link to complete for PART TWO.

You can save and exit your submission to continue at a later time and you will receive written confirmation when submitting your final application.
