Charlotte Doogue

Victoria University

Charlotte is an environmental sciences, biology and statistics student, studying at Victoria University of Wellington. She is from Ōtautahi/Christchurch and graduated from Cashmere High School in 2020.

Charlotte’s passion for sustainability was sparked at a young age by her love for the outdoors instilled in her by her whānau. She served as the chairperson of the Cashmere Primary School Environmental Executive; leading energy, recycling and biodiversity projects.

Charlotte enjoys outdoor recreation and competes nationally in the team sport of Adventure Racing. Through competing in this sport Charlotte has been able to appreciate many of New Zealand’s incredible environments and grown passionate about preserving these unique places for others to enjoy.

As an active member of her community; Charlotte was a member of the Christchurch Youth Council 2019-2020, and currently represents the Ōwhanga/South Christchurch constituency on the Environment Canterbury Youth Rōpū. She regularly volunteers in her local community with the Cashmere Volunteer Army and as a Volunteer Surf Lifeguard and Lifeguard Instructor at Sumner Surf Lifesaving Club. Charlotte thrives working with the community in our stunning coastal environment.

While at Secondary School Charlotte led the Cashmere High School Sustainability Council; leading environmental initiatives from nurturing a riparian reserve to stormwater awareness projects and empowering younger students to begin their sustainability journeys.

Charlotte attended BLAKE Inspire in 2020 and hopes to continue to combine her passions for discovery, service and the environment through a career in coastal or marine science.
