Freya High

Student

Freya is a year 13 student at Nelson College for Girls. Since a young age, Freya has loved exploring the environment around her through a range of activities including tramping, kayaking, cycling, sailing and trail running. This appreciation and respect for the outdoors inspires her desire to help conserve our wild places and advocate for sustainability in her community. In May 2022 Freya attended BLAKE Inspire for Sailors. She came away from this inspired to take further action in her community, particularly at her local yacht club where she now acts as the sustainability representative on the club committee. Freya is also a leader of her school Enviro Action group and is a project leader for Forest and Bird Youth Nelson-Tasman. Last year she won the Nick Smith Environmental Leadership Award for her extremely high level of involvement in sustainability initiatives at Nelson College for Girls. Freya feels extremely privileged to be given the opportunity to travel to the Subantarctic with BLAKE in 2023. After leaving high school, Freya plans to study Ecology, Geology or Environmental Science at university.
