Lucas Richardson

Student Voyager

Lucas is a Year 13 student at Palmerston North Boys’ High School. Lucas attended BLAKE Inspire in April 2021 and developed an interest in the marine environment in the process. In more recent times, Lucas further explored the marine environment during the Spirit of Adventure January 2022 voyage. After immersing himself in the natural world for 10 days, he left with a greater desire to affect sustainable change.

Lucas is heavily involved with the Palmerston North Youth Council, where he helps develop communication with local council regarding the issues that matter most to young people. By brainstorming wastewater consultations or discussing how the environment is prioritised in local government, Lucas’ years in local governance have exposed him to the importance of putting sustainability first. In 2022, Lucas is eager to learn more about the New Zealand environment through BLAKE Expedition and implement sustainable practices with the Palmerston North Boys’ High School environmental committee, a group of about 15 students he organised for his BLAKE Inspire action plan.

In his spare time, Lucas enjoys badminton, piano, and walks along the Manawatū River. Lucas is also in the midst of his Gold Duke of Edinburgh award and plans to explore the intersection of economics, politics, and the environment at University. Lucas is excited and grateful for the opportunity to bring home new knowledge and experiences from the 2022 BLAKE Expedition.
