Sian Crowley

Programme Manager

Kia ora e te whānau! Ko Tauhara te maunga. Ko Waikato te awa. No Taupō ahau engari ka noho au inaiānei ki Ōtautahi. He kaiwhakaako ahau mo te taiao ki BLAKE. Ko Sian Crowley toku ingoa.

I have recently made the move down from Taupō to Ōtautahi/Christchurch. Previously working as an Environmental Education Coordinator for Kids Greening Taupō (2019-2021). In this role I had the pleasure of working with students from kindergarten right through to highschool connecting to nature, coordinating the senior student leadership team, collaboratively coordinated professional development opportunities for teachers, created online resources and coordinated many local restoration projects.

I am excited for my role with BLAKE, an organisation who I have been part of since 2015 as part of the Sir Peter Blake YELF (Young Environmental Leaders Forum) – now BLAKE Inspire, and the BLAKE Ambassador programme (2017). I will be managing the BLAKE NZ VR and Explorers programmes down south which is super exciting for the organisation (first South Island programmes), and for myself with this epic role!

I studied a BSc double majoring in Ecology and Biodiversity, and Environmental Studies at Te Herenga Waka in Te Upoko o te ika a Maui/Wellington (2016-2018). During my third year of university, I established the Forest & Bird Youth Wellington Hub and held the Co-Director role for National Forest & Bird Youth for two years.  I remain an active member of the F&BY National Committee.

I have also recently joined the New Zealand Association for Environmental Education Capabilities sub-committee.

Outside of my environmental mahi I am a competitive rockclimber and target shooter. I enjoy heading out into nature for bushwalks, surfing, snorkelling and photography. I also love to be creative through sewing, painting, photography and design, and can’t beat a competitive board games night with friends!

I’m really excited to be working with the passionate team here at BLAKE, continuing the legacy of Sir Peter Blake inspiring the next generation and connecting them to the moana.
