BLAKE Inspire for Sailors 2019

In 2019, BLAKE Inspire for Sailors brought together 30 young environmental leaders with a passion for sailor from all over New Zealand for a week of adventure-based, experiential learning and leadership development in, on and around the water in Auckland.

Students spent the week learning about topical environmental issues facing our country with a focus on climate change/Huringa āhurangi, Marine/Moana, Biodiversity/Rerenga rauropi and Freshwater/Wai Māori.

Assisted by environmental and sailing leaders, scientists and experts in the field, students developed their own individual action plans to implement in their sailing clubs and communities.

“I feel like the course was really eye opening and that I got a lot more out of it than expected. Personally, I think the course has really given me more drive to go out into my yacht club and community and make a difference in the marine environment. It has definitely made me want to pursue something to do with conservation or education in the future. I loved how everything we did related to Sir Peter Blake and his interests and qualities in some way. Overall it was a great experience and I’m stoked I was able to take part, thanks!”
